Windows 11 Recall Causes DCS To Run Slower

Hello Fox3 Customers and DCS Pilots!

I recently saw that Microsoft pushed out MS Recall with their last updates to Windows 11. This is a pretty impressive feature and there is a lot of benefit from it as well as some controversy around privacy, but I look at everything by asking "how will this affect my DCS experience?".

I started doing some testing and found that with Recall enabled my frame rate for DCS dropped on average by 15% in some case up to 21%. If you are like me, I don't want ANYTHING to interfere with my DCS flying time.

So What is MS Recall?

The Recall feature in Windows allows users to retrace their steps by capturing periodic snapshots of their screen. It’s a background process that stores and analyzes these snapshots locally for searching content based on text or visuals. While it could use system resources (like RAM and storage), its impact on gaming, including multiplayer DCS, is expected to be minimal unless you’re running low on memory or storage. You can disable it during gaming to prevent potential performance drops. Full details here

I found it to be an extreme frame rate killer for DCS. I started doing some more research about how to disable or totally get rid of this new "feature".

Here is what I found:

You can make your own decision if you want to keep it or remove it based on whatever makes you tick about privacy vs. convenience, but for me anything that takes a smidge of performance away from my flight time has to go!

Here is how you get rid of MS Recall (Note this only is currently installed on Windows 11 latest updates)

(the above video by Chris Titus is really good)

So keep DCS performing well. if you are on Windows 11, get rid of MS Recall!

I hope this help you!

Luck out
